Renewing my Marriage Covenant

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Today I wanted to share with you a Marriage Covenant that I wrote up for my husband back in 2004 as a special way to renew our vows. Last week was our 10 year anniversary and I was reminded of these marriage vows that I wrote up to encourage my husband at that time.

The last ten years have been challenging as every married couple can understand yet wonderful and has brought two very special people into our lives, our daughter and son who we can’t even imagine our lives being without.

But the longer we are with someone, the easier it gets to take for granted those that we love and not express how much they mean to us. I realized I had been taking for granted that my husband knew I loved him and this marriage covenant was a special way for me to tell him just how much I do love him and what he means to me.

I encourage you to do something similar and it doesn’t even have to be your anniversary or Valentines day because doing things out of the blue and when it is least expected can make it even more meaningful and special.

To My Wonderful Husband
On Valentines Day

From this day forward, I renew my Marriage Covenant to
Love, Cherish and be United with you becoming one flesh
(Genesis 2:24) ’til death do us part.

I will do my best to be a suitable Companion and Helper
(Genesis 2:18) that is generous with my affections being
Kind and Compassionate. (Ephesians 4:32)

I will do my best to Submit to you as is fitting in the Lord
(Col. 3:18) and to Respect you with my words and actions,
Honoring you above myself. (Romans 12:10)

I pray I will be for you a Wife of Noble Character …
One who sets about my work vigorously …
who speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction …
and watches over the affairs of our household …
(Proverbs 31) with a quiet and gentle spirit. (1 Peter 3:4)

Unbroken by Tracy Elliott, with Jenna Glatzer

Friday, May 4th, 2007

This is a wonderful book that I would recommend for anyone to read. Regardless if you have similar issues that she has had to deal with in her life or not. We all have baggage from our past that sometimes get dragged with us into our present lives that we need to learn to let go of and make peace with. Many of us are so quick to judge others at times when we see people behaving in ways we just couldn’t imagine behaving as Christians but her book has really helped me to see the importance of not judging others because we don’t know where they have been in their lives and what they have had to walk through. Her story is very touching and inspirational to see how God has worked all through even the worst of times she has had to endure in her life and especially to see how she is using her personal testimony to get a message out to others that “the destiny God has for you far outweighs anything that can come against you in your life” as she has said.

UNBROKEN by Tracy Elliott, with Jenna Glatzer (Nelson Books; Hardcover; April 10th)

Orphaned as a young girl, Tracy Elliott grew up in her grandmother’s house. Despite her grandmother’s love, Tracy’s uncles, who lived in the same house, created an atmosphere of violence, abuse and fear. All the furniture in the house was smashed during their violent, drunken rages — except for one old wooden china cabinet. Despite the frequent violent rampages that took place in the house, the china cabinet remained intact — unbroken.
Later in life, as a stripper, she lived hard and suffered the consequences.

Now, in this touching memoir, she tells the story of how her life was put back together by the power and redemption of God…and how a simple china cabinet became the symbol of God’s unyielding love and forgiveness.
