I am excited to tell you that the long awaited collaborative book project “Mirror Mirror on the Wall” is now available!

It was a tremendous blessing for me to be a part of this book project and I know it will be an even greater blessing as I read through the other women’s devotions and journal in my own thoughts and prayers as I ponder the 10 commandments a second time through.

Be sure to click on the ecard below to purchase a copy of the book for yourself or a loved one as it would make a wonderful Christmas gift.

Building a Family Heritage

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

As founder of Christian Women’s Resources and having a passion to help other build their family Heritage and one who strives to build the family values in my home I wanted to bring to mind and expand on four well known ways we can easily build our family heritage but is often neglected.

In order to train a child in the way they should go as it says in Proverbs 22:6, we must spend time together. Without spending meaningful time together as a family it is a difficult task to say the least to train a child in the way they should go.

Begin to lay a foundation in your family by doing these four things together in order to bond the family and keep it’s values close at heart.

First, become a family that reads together. Reading together the Bible first and foremost is the best book to read in order to instill godly values, but don’t underestimate the importance of also reading other books of interests. Find out what each child is interested in and go to the library to check out some books. Have family and individual reading times.

Second, become a family that prays together. Praying together at bedtime and meal times in great, but also praying throughout the day when they are hurt, struggling with something, or just happy about something is even greater. It teaches them that God is available to them any time of day as well as being someone they can go to with any care, concern or excitement they are experiencing in their day.

Third, become a family that plays together. Playing together regularly by having a family game night is wonderful, but be sure to also take time out of each day in order to laugh and play together even for a short time. It let’s them know that although you have things to do, they are more important as well as letting them know you enjoy spending time with them.

Fourth, but not last by any means, become a family that eats together. A family that eats together is great as it is a time where the whole family can come together. Make it a special time to reconnect with one another and share about your days. Why not also make it a time for a short family devotion once everyone is done eating before everyone rushes away from the table to watch TV or do their own thing.

Start building the right foundation and family values when your children are young. But it is never too late to start if your children are older. Remember, we serve a God who is in the miracle business and nothing is impossible for Him. If a time comes when they seem to be going astray, cling to the promise where it says in the second half of the scripture, “and when he is old he will not turn from it.”

I am clinging to this promise even now when my kids are young and believe the foundation I am laying will always be close to their heart and eventually resurface even if it seems to disappear during their teen or older years when there is more peer pressure to deal with and the choices in their life become more difficult.

Blessings,
Lori
